Young Community Builders

posted by Melodie

Recently, United Way Thompson Nicola Cariboo was fortunate to see the results of a remarkable initiative put forth by Mrs. Vicci Ryan’s Grade 1 class at McGowan Park Elementary. The young members of the class felt compelled to give back to the community in a way that could effect their fellow youth, namely through the Boys and Girls Club of Kamloops. With a little help from United Way, Mrs. Ryan’s class purchased several professional-grade blenders to make creative and healthy smoothie drinks for their school. Over several months, hundreds of smoothies were made and sold, with all proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Club of Kamloops. On May 29th, members of Mrs. Ryan’s class proudly presented Morgan Wiles of the Boys and Girls Club with a cheque for $500! The money will certainly go to good use by the agency, and the students are looking forward to selling more smoothies again next year.

Congratulations to Mrs Ryan’s grade 1 class at McGowan Park Elementary, you are truly community builders!
