Service Canada Serves Dinner for 100

posted by danalee

Service Canada employees participated in a United Way Day of Caring and gave up their Sunday yesterday to cook dinner for 100 of Kamloops’ most needy. The speedy and efficient team cooked up a wonderful pasta meal complete with apple crisp for dessert and had the kitchen sparkling well before quitting time. Thank you Service Canada YMAGIN team for giving so generously to your community!

The PIT Stop free meal program runs out of Kamloops United Church and serves from 80-180 people each Sunday. The program is funded by a Social Planning Grant from the City of Kamloops along with private donations. The cooking is done by rotating teams of volunteers such as Rotary, faith groups, sororities, businesses and youth groups.

Participating in a Day of Caring promotes a deeper understanding of community issues and provides an excellent team building opportunity for employees. The projects allow workplaces to demonstrate social responsibility and to make a visual impact in the communities where they live and work. United Way matches local volunteers to non-profit organizations.
